Choices – God Submits

By Andrew Williams

The Lord is the One who will go before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8 HCSB
Choices – God Submits

Good morning fellow disciples.

In this chapter, we see Moses handing over the reins to Joshua to be the leader of the Israelites. Let me rephrase that, we see Moses handing over the reins to Joshua to be the one to take Moses’s place. Moses clearly told Joshua that it was the Lord who would be the one who would go before him and the Israelites.

Submit is defined as “to permit oneself to be subjected to something”.

Here we see God permitting Himself to be the one to go ahead of the Israelites. Here we see God permitting and subjecting Himself to stay with them. God didn’t have to do this! He could have sent an angel to stay with them. God could have empowered the leaders with everything they needed to be successful. However He chose to submit to be the one who would stay with them.

As you continue to find favor in God’s eyes, remember that He does not have to do the things that He does with and for you. It is His choice! What choice will you make knowing that God loves you so much that He wants to spend every moment with you?

I leave you this morning with the conversation between God and Moses showing how He submitted himself.

Moses said to the Lord, “Look, You have told me, ‘Lead this people up,’ but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. You said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in My sight.’ Now if I have indeed found favor in Your sight, please teach me Your ways, and I will know You and find favor in Your sight. Now consider that this nation is Your people.” Then He replied, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” “If Your presence does not go,” Moses responded to Him, “don’t make us go up from here. How will it be known that I and Your people have found favor in Your sight unless You go with us? I and Your people will be distinguished by this from all the other people on the face of the earth.” The Lord answered Moses, “I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found favor in My sight, and I know you by name.”
