Bold Proclamation- Barnabas’ Commitment to the Great Commission

June 12, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, ‘It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you [Jews]. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.’” – Acts 13:46 (ESV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 13:46 marks a turning point in Paul and Barnabas’ ministry, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to the Great Commission. Faced with opposition from the Jewish community in Pisidian Antioch, they boldly declare that since the Jews have rejected the message, they will now focus on sharing the Gospel with the Gentiles. This passage highlights the importance of perseverance, adaptability, and a willingness to follow God’s leading, even when it means shifting strategies.

As a disciple, you may face rejection, opposition, or discouragement when you share your faith with others. Barnabas’ example reminds you to remain faithful to your calling, to trust in God’s plan, and to be willing to adapt your approach as needed. You are empowered to speak the truth with boldness, to persevere in the face of adversity, and to embrace new opportunities to share the Gospel with those who are open to hearing it.

This week, reflect on your own commitment to sharing the Gospel with others. Are you willing to persevere, even when faced with rejection or opposition? Are you open to adapting your approach as needed to reach different people groups? Pray for opportunities to share your faith and for the courage to speak the truth with boldness.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be faithful to Your calling to share the Gospel with others. Give me the courage to speak the truth with boldness, to persevere in the face of adversity, and to adapt my approach as needed to reach those who are open to hearing it. May my life be a testimony to Your love, Your grace, and Your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
