Beloved Co-Laborer- Barnabas’ Esteem and Trust within the Church

June 20, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men from among them and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas. They sent Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers…” – Acts 15:22 (ESV)

“…it has seemed good to us, having come to one accord, to choose men and send them to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,” – Acts 15:25 (ESV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 15:22 and 15:25 highlight the high regard and trust that the Jerusalem church held for Barnabas and Paul. After the Jerusalem Council reached a decision regarding the Gentiles, they chose Barnabas and Paul to be the primary messengers, carrying the official letter back to Antioch. They were also accompanied by chosen representatives from the Jerusalem church. The official letter itself refers to Barnabas and Paul as “our beloved,” underscoring the affection and respect they had earned within the Christian community. This passage emphasizes the importance of building strong relationships, demonstrating integrity, and earning the trust of those around you.

As a disciple, your character, your integrity, and your relationships with others are essential to your effectiveness in ministry. Barnabas’ example reminds you that building trust takes time, consistency, and a commitment to serving others. You are empowered to cultivate strong relationships within your church community, to demonstrate integrity in all that you do, and to earn the respect of those around you.

This week, reflect on your relationships within your church community. Are you actively cultivating strong connections with other believers? Are you demonstrating integrity in your words and actions? Seek to build bridges, to offer support, and to serve others with a sincere heart.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be a faithful and trustworthy member of my church community. Give me the wisdom to cultivate strong relationships, to demonstrate integrity in all that I do, and to earn the respect of those around me. May my life be a testament to your love, your grace, and your desire for unity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
