Be Like Jesus – Teach With Authority

Be Like Jesus – Teach With Authority

Then they went into Capernaum, and right away He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath and began to teach. They were astonished at His teaching because, unlike the scribes, He was teaching them as one having authority.
Mark 1:21‭-‬22 HCSB

Good morning fellow disciples.

Teach is defined as to: impart knowledge to or instruct (someone) as to how to do something or, cause (someone) to learn or understand something by example or experience.

All of us are able to teach! Some of us are good teachers, some of us not so good, and some of us are bad teachers.

In Mark 1:21‭-‬22, I love that the people saw that Jesus had the authority to teach!

What an awesome statement! The scribes were the ones who were designated to teach them the laws: They knew the law, they spoke the law, they taught the law, but the people realized that they did not teach with authority.

Many pastors, many teachers , and many of us know what to say to congregants, students, and friends, but somehow we lack the authority to bring the message across in such a way that people will understand and be obedient to the Word of God.

The people in the synagogue were astonished at Jesus’ teaching because they saw that He had the authority to teach God’s Word.

Authority is defined as: the power to influence others, especially because of one’s commanding manner or one’s recognized knowledge about something.

When you teach, do you have the power to influence others?

Or, are you full of knowledge but unable to influence persons by the words you use or the life that you live?

When you teach God’s Word does His Holy Spirit back it up with signs and wonders following?

When you teach God’s Word do people come under the power of the Holy Spirit?

Prayer: Father God, I don’t want to be like the scribes. Make me like Jesus so that I can teach with authority! Fill me with Your Holy Spirit and empower me to teach with the authority of an ambassador of Your Kingdom. Amen.
