Ephesians 5:18 NLT – Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit
Good morning fellow disciples.
We can be filled with many things such as food, water, alcohol, gas, and the Holy Spirit. We can also be filled with thoughts, emotions, and desires.
Drunk can be defined as: relating to, caused by, or characterized by intoxication, or dominated by an intense feeling.
Examine your life. What causes you to behave the way you do? What can your behavior be related to?
What are you filled with? What are you drunk with?
In this passage a contrast is made. Being filled with wine makes us act like fools, and our behavior becomes detrimental to ourselves and others. Being drunk with wine does not glorify God.
However, when we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we glorify God, fellowship with others, and bring salvation, healing, and freedom to others. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is how we advance the kingdom of God throughout the world.
Prayer: Father God, I want to be filled with Your Holy Spirit. I will stop filling myself with things that are detrimental to me and others, and that do not glorify You. I will spend my time seeking You with my whole heart. Fill me Lord, I pray. Amen.
