Finally, Samson shared his secret with her. “My hair has never been cut,” he confessed, “for I was dedicated to God as a Nazirite from birth. If my head were shaved, my strength would leave me, and I would become as weak as anyone else.”
Judges 16:17 NLT
Good morning fellow disciples.
Confess: to tell or make known.
For three weeks now our devotionals have been geared at getting us to confess. Today I want to add a little caution based on today’s definition of confess.
Be careful who you confess to!
There are some things that we should not make known or tell to certain persons. This is because they will use this sort of confession to harm us or those whom we love or cherish.
In this passage Samson confessed the source of his strength to the woman that he loved. However, she was only looking for a reason to betray him to her people so that she could make some money. She betrayed him, and he was captured, blinded, and put into prison.
Have you ever made a confession that ended up being detrimental to you or others?
Have you ever made a confession that you later regretted because the information you gave out should have been kept secret?
Have you ever made a confession that ended up costing someone their livelihood or their life?
Prayer: Father God, help me to choose carefully those who I make confessions to. Help me to be obedient to You in all things so that I will not choose unscrupulous persons to make confessions to. Amen.
