John 1:33 NLT – I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
Good morning fellow disciples.
Let us examine what happened when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. First, John baptized Jesus with water because this was what God required. Second, God the Father baptized Jesus with His Holy Spirit.
John saw the Holy Spirit coming down in bodily form in the form of a dove, and He rested on Jesus and did not return to heaven. This was the sign that God gave John to show that Jesus was the Chosen One, the Son of God, the Messiah, the Christ.
When John the Baptist witnessed this, he knew that Jesus would be the one who would then baptize everyone else with Holy Spirit and with fire. When Jesus baptizes us, we become full of the Holy Spirit and power to be effective witnesses for the Kingdom of God.
So, we see that when Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit it signified that He was the Son of God, and that He would be the one to baptize with Holy Spirit and with fire.
Have you been baptized by Jesus?
Have you been filled with the Holy Spirit and with power?
Are you an effective witness and ambassador of the Kingdom of God?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, Your baptism shows us that we need to be baptized with water and with God’s Holy Spirit. Baptize us with the Holy Spirit and with power, I pray. Amen.
