Authorized Spokesperson- Silas’ Credibility as a Carrier of Truth

July 5, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“We have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth.” – Acts 15:27 (ESV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 15:27 emphasizes Silas’ role as a trusted and authorized spokesperson for the Jerusalem Council. In the official letter sent to the church in Antioch, the apostles and elders state that they have sent Judas and Silas, who “themselves will tell you the same things by word of mouth.” This highlights their credibility, their understanding of the Council’s decision, and their ability to articulate it accurately and persuasively. It speaks to the importance of choosing representatives who are well versed in the word, for there must be a redirecting of our focus from the individual to the message.

As a disciple, you are called to be a faithful and accurate representative of Christ. Silas’ example reminds you of the importance of knowing the truth, of being able to articulate it clearly, and of conducting yourself in a manner that reflects the character of Christ. You are empowered to be a trustworthy messenger of the Gospel, speaking with conviction, compassion, and integrity.

This week, commit to deepening your understanding of the core doctrines of your faith. Practice articulating these truths in a clear and concise way. Seek to live a life that is consistent with your words, so that your actions will reinforce the message you are sharing. It is also important that you pray for the right words, and for clarity.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be a faithful and accurate representative of You. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, so that I may speak with clarity, conviction, and compassion. Give me the wisdom to articulate the truth of Your Word in a way that is both persuasive and encouraging. May my life be a reflection of Your love, Your grace, and Your Truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
