Then Abraham bowed low before the Hittites and said, “Since you are willing to help me in this way, be so kind as to ask Ephron son of Zohar to let me buy his cave at Machpelah, down at the end of his field. I will pay the full price in the presence of witnesses, so I will have a permanent burial place for my family.”
Genesis 23:7-9 NLT
Good morning fellow disciples.
Abraham had just lost his wife Sarah. He had been living among the Hittites for many years but did not have any land for himself. Even though God had promised him that he would one day own all of the land, at this point in time he did not own any.
He now finds himself in a position where he wants a burial place for his beloved wife, and for his family in the future. In order to do this he needs to buy a plot of land from someone who is living there.
Abraham now asks some of the Hittites to intercede on his behalf with the owner of the plot of land that he would love to buy. Even though it would have been possible for Abraham to go to the person, it was more prudent for someone else to intercede on his behalf.
Intercede: to mediate; to plead on someone else’s behalf; or intervene on behalf of another.
What are you in need of?
Is it something that you need someone to intercede on your behalf to get?
Ask for the help that you need!
Prayer: Father God, like Abraham, I will humble myself before others and ask them to intercede on my behalf. Amen.
