And Peter took up the conversation, saying, Master, it is good and suitable and beautiful for us to be here. Let us make three booths (tents)–one for You and one for Moses and one for Elijah. For he did not [really] know what to say, for they were in a violent fright (aghast with dread).
Mark 9:5-6 AMPC
Good morning fellow disciples.
Transfigure: to change the appearance of a person or thing very much, usually in a very positive and often spiritual way.
Have you ever encountered God in such a way that it left you shaking in your shoes? Did God’s presence so overwhelm you that you did not know what to do or what to say? When you are in God’s presence do you speak in such a way that it shows that you are dumbfounded?
Have you seen the risen Christ? Have you seen angels? Have you felt the mighty power of the Holy Spirit? These encounters with the kingdom of God will leave you speechless. We’re not used to it, so how can we comprehend it.
Peter reacted the way that many of us should when we encounter God. It’s an awesome thing to be in the presence of God. Having read the story many times, I still can’t imagine what it must have been like for these disciples.
Prayer: Father God, we often pray for You to show up in our lives. Some of us pray to see angels. Some of us want You to manifest Yourself in us through Your Holy Spirit in awesome ways.
But, I believe we truly can’t comprehend or fathom how awesome You are. Even so Lord, we ask You today to show us who You are and to reveal the hidden things of Your kingdom to us. This I pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
