A New Partnership- Silas’ Selection and Commissioning for Ministry

July 8, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“but Paul chose Silas and departed, having been commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord.” – Acts 15:40 (ESV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 15:40 marks the beginning of a new chapter in Silas’ ministry. After the painful separation between Paul and Barnabas, Paul chooses Silas to be his new companion for his second missionary journey. This decision highlights Silas’s qualities of faithfulness, reliability, and a proven track record of service. The verse also notes that Paul, with Silas, was “commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord,” underscoring the importance of community support and divine blessing in launching out for ministry.

As a disciple, you may be called to step into new roles, to embrace new partnerships, or to embark on new adventures in faith. Silas’ example reminds you that God can use unexpected circumstances to propel you into new seasons of ministry. Trust that He will equip you for the tasks He has called you to do and that He will surround you with the support and encouragement you need to succeed.

This week, reflect on any new opportunities or challenges that you may be facing. Pray for guidance and discernment, and seek the support of trusted mentors and friends. Be open to the possibility that God may be leading you into a new season of ministry and trust that He will equip you for the journey.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, guide me as I embark on new journeys and step into new roles in your service. Equip me to handle anything that may get thrown my way and encourage me when it gets tough. In your name, Amen.
