Opening Prayer
Lord, thank you for not only saving us, but for giving us a new identity and an eternal home in You.
Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17(NLT)
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
Saying “yes” to Jesus isn’t just a ticket to heaven when you die. It is the beginning of a brand-new life right now. This scripture declares one of the most powerful realities of our faith: if you belong to Christ, you have become a “new person.” You are not just a cleaned-up version of your old self. You are fundamentally, spiritually, and eternally new.
The “old life is gone.” This means your past sins, your failures, and your former identity are no longer what define you. They have been washed away by the sacrifice of Christ. A “new life has begun.” You now have a new identity as a beloved child of God. You have a new purpose, a new power living in you (the Holy Spirit), and a new, eternal destination.
The journey home has reached its first, most crucial destination. You are no longer a spiritual orphan trying to find your way. You have been adopted into the family of God. The emptiness has been filled with His presence. The disconnect has been repaired. This isn’t the end of the journey, but it is the true beginning. Welcome home.
Disciples’ Life Tip: Take out a piece of paper. On one side, write “The Old Life Is Gone,” and list a few things from your past that you are leaving behind. On the other side, write “A New Life Has Begun,” and list a few aspects of your new identity in Christ (e.g., “Forgiven,” “Child of God,” “Masterpiece”). Thank God for the new life He has given you.
Closing Prayer: Father God, thank You for the miracle of new life. Help us to walk in the reality of our new identity, leaving the old behind and embracing the beautiful new beginning You have given us in Christ. Amen.
