A Life-changing Petition

By Andrew Williams

But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us!”
Ruth 1:16‭-‬17 NLT‬

Good morning fellow disciples.

Petition: something asked or requested, an earnest request.

Ruth petitioned Naomi to stay with her. Ruth 1:8‭, ‬10 NLT: But on the way, Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back to your mothers’ homes. And may the Lord reward you for your kindness to your husbands and to me. “No,” they said. “We want to go with you to your people.”‬

Even though Naomi tried to dissuade her from coming with her, it was Ruth’s earnest request that she would be allowed to go with her mother-in-law. This was a life changing petition.

How would going with Naomi change Ruth’s life?

1. Her country of residence would change,

2. She would leave her family to live with Naomi,

3. She would leave certainty for uncertainty,

4. She would change from being a Moabite to becoming a Jew,

5. She would leave a nation that served idols to live in one that served the One True God, and most importantly,

6. She would give up idol worship to serve Yahweh!

Do you have any “ life-changing “ petitions to make?

The greatest life changing petition that you can make is to ask Jesus Christ to be your Lord, Savior, and Master. He has already paid the price to set you free. All you have to do is to believe by faith that He is the Son of God and speak it out loud.

Will you do that today?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I believe that You are the Son of God. I confess that with my mouth right now, and I petition You to be my Lord, Master, and King for all eternity.

I know that my life will be forever changed from this moment onward. Help me to serve You faithfully forever I pray, amen.

  1. Naomi lived a life that inspired Ruth to love and trust her. She was a plrasant person, so she did not mind sticking with her amidst the uncertainties.
