“When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose, for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord. So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a great many people. And in Antioch the disciples were first called Christians.” – Acts 11:23-26 (ESV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Acts 11:23-26 reveals Barnabas’ character and his strategic leadership. Arriving in Antioch, Barnabas recognizes and affirms the “grace of God” at work among the believers. He rejoices and encourages them to “remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose.” The passage emphasizes his personal qualities: “he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith.” Recognizing the growing need and remembering Saul’s potential, Barnabas travels to Tarsus, finds Saul, and brings him back to Antioch to co-labor in ministry. This strategic partnership led to significant growth and, notably, it was in Antioch that “the disciples were first called Christians.”
As a disciple, you are called to be an encourager, a visionary, and a partner in ministry. Barnabas’ example reminds you to look for the good in others, to affirm their gifts, and to empower them to use their talents for the Kingdom of God. You are also empowered to recognize potential in unexpected places and to seek out partnerships that will amplify your impact.
This week, identify someone in your life who has potential but may need encouragement or an opportunity to step into their calling. Reach out to them, affirm their gifts, and offer your support. Consider how you can partner with others to achieve greater things for the Kingdom of God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to have a heart of approval, seeing the good in others and affirming their gifts. Give me the vision to recognize potential and the courage to reach out to those who may need encouragement. Lead me to partnerships that will amplify my impact for your Kingdom. May my life be a testament to your love, your grace, and your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
