A Father’s Petition

By Andrew Williams

As Jesus was saying this, the leader of a synagogue came and knelt before him. “My daughter has just died,” he said, “but you can bring her back to life again if you just come and lay your hand on her.”
Matthew 9:18 NLT

Good morning fellow disciples.

Petition: something asked or requested, an earnest request.

Who do you love? How will their ill health or losing them affect you? What will you do in order to help them?

This father was a leader in his synagogue. While many others were trying to fight against Jesus and to say that he was a false teacher, this man came to Jesus and bowed down before Him and asked Him to resurrect his daughter.

He recognized who Jesus was. He trusted Jesus and placed his faith in Him. He was not concerned about what other members of the synagogue would say because his only concern was the life of his daughter.

How strong is your faith?

In the face of calamity or the impossible, will you exercise that faith?

Are you willing to go to God and ask Him to do what is seemingly impossible?

Be like this father: Exercise your faith in God by petitioning Him for the life of your child!

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I place my faith in You. My situation seems impossible to solve, but I know that even now You can fix it.

Unlike this man whose child was physically dead, my child is spiritually dead. I petition You on behalf of her, my Lord. I ask You to save her, and deliver her from a life of sin. I ask You to heal her and to make her whole.

I place her into Your hands now, Lord. Do what only You can do: Bring her to life, I pray. Amen.
