A Conversation With Jesus About Divorce Part 4

But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female. [Gen. 1:27; 5:2.] For this reason a man shall leave [behind] his father and his mother and be joined to his wife and cleave closely to her permanently,
Mark 10:6‭-‬7 AMPC

Good morning fellow disciples.

God’s plan for mankind was perfect. He made them male and female so that they could be fruitful and multiply, and take care of His world.

It was God’s intention for a man and woman to join together in marriage and to stay together permanently. This was God’s stated intention before sin entered the world. It is still His intention now!

However, sinful man has decided that he wants to do things his way. Sinful man disregards God’s intentions and God’s commands. So, instead of staying with his wife permanently he wants to put her away when he gets dissatisfied with her.

Remember that in answering the question: “Is it lawful for a man to dismiss and repudiate and divorce his wife?”, Jesus is looking at it from a Kingdom of God perspective.

Jesus has already stated what Moses allowed due to the hardness of man’s heart. Now He brings the focus of the conversation back to what God intended.

From a Kingdom of God perspective divorce was not something that God intended. Marriage brought the man and the woman together so that they could live closely, cleaving to each other, and living their life together serving God the way that God requires.

Prayer: Father God, we are beginning to see Your true purpose for a marriage. We realize that it was never Your intention that a married couple should be divorced. We know that in this sinful world we can lose sight of Your will for our lives.

Father God, we look to You for guidance in our marriages. We submit and surrender to Your will God. We will seek to live in the way that You prescribe. Help us to live according to Your stipulation by joining and cleaving permanently to the spouse that You give us. Amen
