And Jesus, looking upon him, loved him, and He said to him, You lack one thing; go and sell all you have and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come [and] accompany Me [walking the same road that I walk]. At that saying the man’s countenance fell and was gloomy, and he went away grieved and sorrowing, for he was holding great possessions.
Mark 10:21-22 AMPC
Good morning fellow disciples.
Jesus loved the man because he was following God’s commands. But Jesus realized that what the young man was doing was not enough. In his attempt to follow the Mosaic law he had failed. What was his failure?
He had an idol! He had another god! This idol was his great possessions. He couldn’t serve both God and mammon! Mammon is defined as “wealth regarded as an evil influence or false object of worship and devotion.”
Jesus presented him with the choice: give up your wealth that is an evil influence or false object of worship and devotion and, come and accompany Jesus walking the same road that Jesus walked.
The young man chose mammon instead of God. Despite him wanting to be in God’s Kingdom he could not, he would not, let go of his idol.
Are you like this young man? Have you refused to let go of your idols as you continue to seek God?
Jesus made it clear! You need to make a choice!
If you want to be a Kingdom Citizen you have to give up all idols and serve God wholeheartedly!
Prayer: I see it clearly now Father God! In order to become a Kingdom Citizen I have to choose to follow Jesus and walk the same road he walked.
Right here, right now, I renounce all idols, I repent and I choose You as my only God, Father God. I will not walk away from You. I will live my life the way You did Lord Jesus. Amen
