A Conversation With Jesus About Becoming A Kingdom Citizen Part 2

And as He was setting out on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him and asked Him, Teacher, [You are essentially and perfectly morally] good, what must I do to inherit eternal life [that is, to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah’s kingdom]? And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me [essentially and perfectly morally] good? There is no one [essentially and perfectly morally] good–except God alone.
Mark 10:17‭-‬18 AMPC

Good morning fellow disciples.

The man said that Jesus was essentially and perfectly morally good.

Moral is defined as ‘conforming to a standard of right behavior’.

Morally means that one behaves in a way that is considered right according to the code of behaviour of a particular society.

This man said that Jesus was behaving in a way that was morally perfect and good. He saw Jesus as living according to the standards of the Jewish religion. Because of this he came to Jesus to see if there was anything else that he could do to live in right standing with God.

As we look at this statement that Jesus was essentially and perfectly morally good, we could say that Jesus was living according to the standard, however Jesus did not see it the way that the young man did.

Jesus redirected this man’s focus away from Himself to God! Jesus said that God was the only one who was essentially and perfectly and morally good! My question to us today is this: “What society’s morals was Jesus talking about when He said that only God was good?”

Jesus came to represent the Kingdom of God and as such, the moral standard by which He lived was that of the Kingdom of heaven. The people of the Jewish religion were living by their religious morals. At no time were they able to live fully pleasing to God. Despite all their rule keeping they were never essentially and perfectly morally good!

Which society’s morals do you wish to uphold? Do you wish to be essentially and perfectly morally good in the Kingdom of God?

If you do, follow Jesus’ teachings, accept Him as your Lord and Savior and, live your life the way that He did. Surrender yourself fully to God and submit to His Holy Spirit who lives within you!

Prayer: Father God, You are essentially and perfectly morally good. I am Your child, adopted into Your Kingdom because I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

I abide in You as You abide in me! Transform me into Your likeness so that my morality will reflect Your Kingdom and You in all aspects. Help me God, to daily live obedient to all Your directions. Amen
