Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 6: The Watchman on the Wall
Week 25: Sounding the Alarm & Guarding the Gate
Anchor Scripture: “And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’” — Matthew 25:6 (NKJV)
The Teaching
The Watchman’s duties reach their ultimate purpose in the Midnight Cry. In Jesus’ parable of the ten virgins, the difference between the “wise” and the “foolish” was not their sleep (for they all slumbered), but their preparedness. The cry that went out at midnight was the final alarm of history. It was the announcement that the time of “watching” was over and the time of “encounter” had arrived.
The Prophet-Watchman carries the “Spirit of the Forerunner.” Your final and highest assignment is to Prepare the Bride for the Bridegroom. You are the voice that sounds in the darkest hour—when the world is most distracted and “at sleep” (Day 156)—declaring, “Behold, He is coming!”
Preparing the people means ensuring they have “oil in their lamps.” You aren’t just telling them “Jesus is coming”; you are telling them to consecrate their lives, trim their wicks, and fill their vessels. You are calling for a “Go Out”—a pulling away from the world’s systems to meet the King in the “secret place.” The Midnight Cry is the sound of Ultimate Alignment. It is the call to be ready for the most important “visitation” in history.
Prophetic Insight
The “Midnight” season is a time of extreme spiritual darkness, confusion, and “night.” The darker the world gets, the more important the Watchman’s voice becomes. If you find yourself sensing a “coming day” that the world is blind to, do not be silent. Your “Behold” is what helps the Church find her lamp and her oil. You are called to keep the “Hope of His Appearing” alive in the hearts of the saints. The Midnight Cry is not a cry of “fear”; it is a cry of Invitation. You are inviting the Church to move from the “Post of the Wall” to the “Presence of the Wedding.” Your vigilance ensures that the Bride is awake and dressed when the Groom arrives.
The Activation
Look at your life through the lens of the “Midnight Cry” today. If you knew the Bridegroom was arriving tonight, what “oil” would you need to gather? What “wick” would you need to trim? Today, perform an act of Consecrated Preparation. Repent of one “dulling” habit, and spend 15 minutes in extra worship, simply telling the Lord: “I am ready. My lamp is full. Behold, You are coming, and I am going out to meet You.”
Daily Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You that You are the Coming King. I accept my mandate to be a voice for Your arrival. Forgive me for being so focused on the ‘enemy’ on the wall that I forget the ‘Bridegroom’ at the door. I choose today to sound the Midnight Cry. Help me to prepare Your people for Your appearing. Let my life be full of Your oil and my heart be fixed on Your Face. I am waiting and watching for You. Amen.
