Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 6: The Watchman on the Wall
Week 24: Standing in the Gap (The Wall of Intercession)
Anchor Scripture: “I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord [literal Hebrew: you who remind the Lord], do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” — Isaiah 62:6–7 (NKJV)
The Teaching
One of the most unusual and powerful assignments given to the Watchman is to be a Remembrancer. In the ancient courts of kings, there was an official called the “Recorder” or the “Remembrancer.” His job was to stand before the king and remind him of his promises, his decrees, and his previous acts of mercy. The King didn’t “forget” these things, but the Remembrancer was the one who brought them into the “Current Business” of the court.
God says He has set watchmen on the walls specifically to “remind the Lord.” This seems like a theological contradiction—does an omniscient God need to be reminded? No. But the Prophet is authorized to bring the Contract of the Word into the “Court of Heaven.” You are like a legal advocate who points to the “case law” of Scripture and says, “Lord, You promised this! You said in Your Word that You would restore! I am bringing this back to Your attention.”
To be a remembrancer is to refuse to “hold your peace.” You are a spiritual “Nagger” for the Kingdom. God invites this persistence. He says, “Give Me no rest.” He wants His prophets to be so convinced of His promises that they refuse to leave the Throne Room until the promise is established in the earth. You are holding God to His own character.
Prophetic Insight
A Prophet’s prayer is not just “asking”; it is “Quoting.” Your authority in intercession comes from the Integrity of the Word. When you stand in the gap (Day 169) and you quote God’s own words back to Him, you are aligning the “Decrees of Heaven” with the “Needs of the Earth.” This is how you “force” the atmosphere to shift. If a situation looks hopeless, go to the Word and find a promise. Then, stand on the wall and “remind” the Lord of that promise day and night. The “unrelenting sound” of the Remembrancer is the very thing that “compels” the hand of God to move.
The Activation
Identify a “Delayed Promise” or a “Broken Wall” in your life. Today, “Open the Court Case.” Find three specific Scriptures that address that situation. Go to the Lord and say: “Lord, I am Your watchman, and I am here to remind You of Your Word. You said [Quote Verse 1]. You promised [Quote Verse 2]. You declared [Quote Verse 3]. I will not keep silent and I will give You no rest until this is established.”
Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You that You are a Covenant-Keeper. I accept my role as Your remembrancer today. I repent for my silence and my lack of persistence. I choose to stand before You and mention Your promises day and night. Forgive me for holding my peace while Your walls are in ruins. I bring Your Word back to You today. Establish Your Truth in my life and my city. Amen.
