Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 5: The Prophet’s Mandate: To Root Out and To Plant

Week 18: The Work of Uprooting (Deconstruction)

Anchor Scripture: “See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out and to pull down, to destroy and to throw down, to build and to plant.” — Jeremiah 1:10 (NKJV)

For Month 5, we dive into the operational mandate of the office. Following the blueprint of Jeremiah 1:10, we explore the prophet’s role not just as a “foreteller,” but as a spiritual reformer and architect. This month focuses on the authority to dismantle what is dead and the grace to build what is new.

Before the new can grow, the old must be identified and removed. This week deals with the “difficult” side of the prophetic assignment.

The Teaching
As we enter Month 5, we transition from perception to operation. We have learned how the prophet sees and hears; now we must look at what the prophet is authorized to do. The Office of the Prophet is not merely an “information bureau”; it is a governmental seat in the Spirit. This is what we call The Jeremiah Mandate.

God tells Jeremiah that He has “set” him over nations and kingdoms. This “setting” is a divine positioning of authority. Notice the specific nature of the commission. It is comprised of six verbs—six specific assignments that define the prophet’s work. Curiously, four of these six are “negative” or destructive: root out, pull down, destroy, and throw down. Only the final two are “positive”: build and plant.

This reveals a fundamental Kingdom principle: The ground must be cleared before it can be cultivated. A prophet is often sent to a “cluttered” environment—a heart, a church, or a nation that is filled with religious traditions, demonic strongholds, and “weeds” of compromise. You cannot build a holy structure on a crooked foundation. Therefore, the prophet’s first job is often “demolition.” You are authorized to identify and dismantle what is not of God so that the space is cleared for what is of God.

Prophetic Insight
If you find that your prophetic voice often feels “heavy” or “confrontational,” do not immediately assume you are being “unloving.” You are likely operating in the first four stages of the Jeremiah Mandate. The Prophet is a spiritual reformer. A reformer doesn’t just add new paint to an old wall; they often have to tear the wall down because it is infested with rot. The “authority” mentioned in this verse is the authority to disturb the status quo. You are not a “social worker” for the Kingdom; you are a “structural engineer.” You carry the “divine permit” to clear the land. But remember: the goal is never just the ruins; the goal is always the building and the planting that follows.

The Activation
Look at your current sphere of influence. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you which of the six verbs is active right now.

  1. Is it a time of Rooting Out (dealing with hidden roots of bitterness or sin)?
  2. Is it a time of Pulling Down (challenging high-level pride or systems)?
  3. Or is it finally a time of Building and Planting?
Identify the “stage” of your assignment and ask God for the specific authority needed for that phase.

Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You for the authority of the Jeremiah Mandate. I thank You that You have set me as a gift to the Body to bring divine order. Forgive me for being afraid to ‘pull down’ what You have not planted. Give me the courage to clear the ground and the wisdom to build according to Your pattern. I accept my commission today—over nations and over kingdoms—for Your glory. Amen.
