Week 17: Interpretation & The Prophetic Riddle
Anchor Scripture: “But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.” — Luke 2:19 (NKJV)
The Teaching
One of the most vital disciplines in the prophetic office is the Stewardship of Silence. As a prophet, you are invited into the “Council of the Lord” (Day 15), where you see and hear things that are not yet public knowledge. The greatest mistake a developing prophet can make is assuming that every revelation received is a revelation to be released.
In the New Testament, we see Mary receiving incredible “prophetic data” about her son from angels and shepherds. Instead of starting a “prophetic platform” to announce these things, she “kept” them and “pondered” them in her heart. She understood that some words are meant for Incubation, not Proclamation.
God often gives “Private Revelation” for several reasons:
- For Intercession: He shows you a secret so you can pray it through in private, stopping the enemy’s plan before it ever manifests.
- For Preparation: He shows you what is coming so you can prepare your own heart, not so you can warn the crowd.
- As a Maturity Test: He shares a secret to see if you can be trusted with His “cabinet-level” information without leaking it to others for “influence.”
The prophet must learn the difference between “Knowing” and “Speaking.” If you release a private revelation prematurely, you can cause confusion, damage reputations, or “abort” a process God is trying to work out in secret.
Prophetic Insight
The “soulish” part of the prophet loves to be the “person in the know.” There is a subtle ego-boost that comes from sharing a secret that no one else has. You must crucify the urge to be “first to the news.” A mature prophet asks: “Lord, is this for my mouth or for my heart? Is this for the pulpit or for the closet?” If you aren’t sure, stay silent. God would rather you “ponder” a word too long than release it a moment too soon. Privacy is the currency of trust in the Kingdom. If God can trust you to keep a secret, He will trust you with the deep mysteries of His heart.
The Activation
Think of a “word” or a piece of spiritual data you’ve received lately that you haven’t shared yet. Today, instead of looking for someone to tell, take that word into your “secret place.” Say to the Lord: “I am pondering this in my heart. I won’t speak it unless You give me the express command to proclaim it. I am content to be Your secret-keeper.” Notice the spiritual strength that comes from “holding” the word rather than “spending” it.
Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You for the secrets You share with Your servants. I ask for the wisdom to discern between private revelation and public proclamation. Forgive me for my ‘leaky’ spirit and my desire to be seen as the ‘one who knows.’ I choose to be a faithful steward of Your silence. Teach me to ponder Your words until the appointed time of release. Amen.
