The Teaching
We conclude our week on “Feeling and Knowing” with one of the most precise tools in the prophetic kit: The Word of Knowledge. While prophecy often speaks to the future or the potential of a person, the Word of Knowledge is a supernatural revelation of facts regarding the past or the present—facts that the prophet could not have known through any natural means.
Think of Jesus with the woman at the well. He didn’t just tell her she was loved; He told her she had five husbands and the man she was with currently was not her husband. This was not a “guess” or “intuition”; it was a fragment of God’s infinite knowledge dropped into Jesus’ spirit.
Notice it is called a “word of knowledge,” not the “gift of knowledge.” God does not give you His entire “database”; He gives you a “word”—a small piece of the puzzle. This “data-link” serves a specific purpose: it is a Sign that God is present and that He knows the person intimately. When a Word of Knowledge is released, it bypasses the person’s skepticism and “proves” that the messenger is truly connected to the Divine. It acts as a key that unlocks the heart so that the prophetic word can then be received.
Prophetic Insight
The Word of Knowledge often arrives in very subtle ways. It might be a “knowing” about a specific physical pain (which often signals a call to heal), a name that pops into your head, or a “snapshot” of a scene from someone’s childhood. If you are called to the office, you must learn to trust these “random” pieces of information. The enemy will tell you that you are “just imagining it” or “making it up.” But if the information is accurate and leads to God’s glory, it is a Word of Knowledge. This gift is not for your “information” or to make you look like a “super-spiritual detective”; it is for the Encounter. It is God’s way of saying to the broken, “I see you exactly where you are, and I know your story.”
The Activation
Today, practice “Asking for the Detail.” As you pray for someone or interact with a stranger, ask the Holy Spirit: “Lord, give me a Word of Knowledge for them. Show me something about their life that only You could know.” If a specific detail comes to mind (a color, a date, a pain in a specific body part, or a hidden struggle), don’t be afraid to test it. You can say, “This may sound unusual, but are you dealing with [detail]?” Watch how a single “fact from heaven” can open a door for a life-changing conversation.
Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You that You are the God of all knowledge. I thank You that nothing is hidden from Your sight. I ask for the gift of the Word of Knowledge today. Grant me fragments of Your truth to help me unlock the hearts of others. Forgive me for being afraid to speak what You show me. Let Your supernatural ‘data’ flow through me to prove Your love and Your presence to a hurting world. Amen.
