Series: The Year of the Prophet- Month 4: The Seer Realm & Divine Senses

Week 15: The Language of the Seer (Dreams & Visions)

Anchor Scripture: “I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; I have used similitudes [parables/metaphors] by the ministry of the prophets.” — Hosea 12:10 (NKJV)

The Teaching
If you study the visions of the prophets, you will notice something peculiar: God rarely speaks in plain, technical language. Instead of saying “Your enemies will be defeated,” He shows a vision of a “shattering jar.” Instead of saying “I am going to bring a new move of the Spirit,” He shows a “rising river.” He speaks in Divine Metaphors.

A metaphor is a “similitude”—a comparison between a natural object and a spiritual reality. But why does God use symbols like trees, water, animals, or colors?

  1. To Bypass Logic: A technical statement appeals to the head, but a symbol strikes the heart and the imagination.
  2. To Pack Revelation: A single image can contain layers of meaning that ten thousand words could not describe. A “Lion” doesn’t just represent power; it represents royalty, courage, ferocity, and protective leadership all at once.
  3. To Test Hunger: Like Jesus’ parables, symbols are “revelation wrapped in a riddle.” They require the prophet to lean in and ask, “What does this mean, Lord?” (Zechariah 4:4).

To be a Seer is to become fluent in the “alphabet of symbols.” God uses the natural world as His dictionary. When He shows you an eagle, He is talking about perspective and soaring. When He shows you an almond tree, He is talking about alertness and early blooming. The natural world is a “shadow” of the spiritual world, and the Prophet learns to read the shadows to understand the Light.

Prophetic Insight
Do not be frustrated when your visions don’t make immediate sense. If you see a “plumb line” or a “boiling pot,” do not try to figure it out with your intellect. If you use human logic to interpret a divine metaphor, you will end up with a “soulish” interpretation. Instead, look for the Nature of the symbol. What does a boiling pot do? It creates pressure; it overflows; it burns. God is showing you the “nature” of the season. The Holy Spirit is the Interpreter. Your job is to capture the metaphor; His job is to unlock the meaning.

The Activation
Practice “Metaphorical Thinking” today. As you go through your day, look at a natural object—a bridge, a withered leaf, a locked door, or a flowing tap. Ask the Holy Spirit: “Lord, if this were a message for me today, what would it be?” Don’t make it “deep” or religious; just look for the spiritual parallel. This exercises your ability to see the “parables” God is constantly placing in your path.

Daily Prayer: Lord God, I thank You that You are the Master of the Parable. I thank You for the symbols and metaphors You use to speak to my heart. I ask for the ‘spirit of wisdom and revelation’ to understand Your similitudes. Forgive me for being too logical and missing the mystery of Your visions. Open my eyes to see the spiritual reality behind the natural shadow. I am Your student; teach me Your language. Amen.
