Series: He Is (Week 3: The Names of His Righteous Character)

Opening Prayer
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, we bow in reverence before You. Purify our hearts that we might worship You in the beauty of Your holiness.

Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Isaiah 43:15
“I am the Lord, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel and your King.”

Throughout the book of Isaiah, one title for God is used more than any other: Kadosh, “The Holy One.” Holiness is arguably the most fundamental attribute of God’s character. It means He is utterly pure, perfect, and set apart from all sin and imperfection. He is in a category all by Himself.

This name reveals God’s absolute moral perfection. There is no shadow of darkness in Him, no hint of evil. He is pure light. This is why the angels in His presence cry out “Holy, Holy, Holy” (Isaiah 6:3). His holiness is overwhelming and awe-inspiring. It is this very holiness that creates the problem of sin—our imperfection cannot stand in the presence of His perfection.

To know God as Kadosh is to have a deep and reverent awe for Him. It moves us beyond a casual, buddy-buddy view of God and reminds us that we are approaching the King of the universe. But the miracle of the Gospel is that this Holy One has, through Christ, made a way for us, the unholy, to be in a relationship with Him. He is “the Lord, your Holy One,” a holy God who has made Himself ours.

Disciple’s Life Tip: Interact with God as Kadosh. Take a moment of quiet reverence. Instead of coming with a list of requests, simply worship The Holy One. You can repeat the angels’ cry: “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty. The whole earth is full of His glory.”

Closing Prayer: Kadosh, the Holy One, I fall on my face before You in worship. Thank You for making a way for me to draw near to Your perfect holiness. I stand in awe of You. Amen.
