He Is (Week 2: The Covenant Names of Provision)

Opening Prayer
Lord of Peace, in a world filled with chaos and anxiety, we come to You, our only source of true and lasting peace.

Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Judges 6:24
“And Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and named it Yahweh-Shalom (which means ‘the Lord is peace’).”

Gideon is hiding in a winepress, full of fear and doubt, when the Angel of the Lord appears and calls him a “mighty hero. After this overwhelming encounter, Gideon fears for his life, but the Lord reassures him, “It is all right… Do not be afraid. You will not die.” In response, Gideon builds an altar and names it Yahweh Shalom, “The Lord Is Peace.”

This name reveals that God Himself is the source of our peace. The Hebrew word is much richer than the absence of conflict. It means wholeness, completeness, well-being, and harmony. It is a state of right relationship with God that brings a deep, internal tranquility, regardless of external circumstances. God doesn’t just give peace; He is peace.

To know God as Yahweh Shalom is to find our rest and wholeness in Him alone. When our lives are fragmented by anxiety, fear, and turmoil, we can run to Yahweh Shalom. He is the one who quiets our fears, calms our storms, and brings a wholeness to our souls that the world cannot give or take away.

Disciple’s Life Tip: Interact with God as Yahweh Shalom. Identify the primary source of your anxiety or lack of peace today. In prayer, confess your turmoil to Yahweh Shalom and ask Him to replace your anxiety with His divine, whole-making peace.

Closing Prayer: Yahweh Shalom, I am so grateful that You are my peace. Guard my heart and mind with the wholeness and tranquility that can only be found in You. Amen.
