He Is (Week 1: The Foundational Names)

Opening Prayer
Everlasting God, in a world that is always changing, thank You for being our constant, unchanging anchor.

Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Isaiah 40:28
“Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.”

Isaiah speaks to a weary and discouraged people, reminding them of who their God is. He calls Him El Olam, The Everlasting God. This name speaks to God’s eternal nature. He has no beginning and no end. He exists outside of time, and all of history unfolds under His eternal gaze.

This name reveals God’s infinite strength and stamina. The verse says, “He never grows weak or weary.” While we are finite, with limited energy and understanding, El Olam’s power and wisdom are boundless and inexhaustible. To know God as El Olam is to find unending strength in a God who never runs out.

When you feel tired, when the journey feels long, and when you are tempted to give up, remember you serve El Olam. The challenges that wear you out do not wear Him out. You can draw on His everlasting strength. He is the God of ages past and the hope for years to come, and His strength is available to you right now.

Disciple’s Life Tip: Interact with God as El Olam. Are you feeling weary today? In prayer, exchange your weariness for His everlasting strength. Pray, “El Olam, I am tired. I give you my weakness and I receive your strength that never fails.”

Closing Prayer: El Olam, the Everlasting God, thank You that Your strength is made perfect in my weakness. Renew my strength today, I pray, as I put my hope in You. Amen.
