He Is (Week 1: The Foundational Names)

Opening Prayer
God Almighty, we come to You today not in our own sufficiency, but in full dependence on You, our all-sufficient Father.

Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Genesis 17:1
“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, ‘I am El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty.’ Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life.'”

God reveals Himself as El Shaddai at a pivotal moment. Abram is 99, and the promise of a son seems utterly impossible. It is in this context of human impossibility that God declares His name as “God Almighty.” While the exact root is debated, it carries the strong sense of being the All-Sufficient One, the one who has all power to nourish, supply, and satisfy.

This name reveals that God is more than enough for any situation. He is the source of all blessings and all fruitfulness. He can bring life from barrenness and fulfill His promises when all human logic says it’s too late. To know God as El Shaddai is to find your sufficiency completely in Him. He is the one who can meet your deepest needs and empower you to do what He calls you to do, regardless of your limitations.

When you feel weak, empty, or faced with an impossible situation, you have a God who is El Shaddai. He is not limited by your resources, your age, or your ability. He is the all-sufficient source of everything you need.

Disciple’s Life Tip: Interact with God as El Shaddai. Identify an area in your life where you feel insufficient or where a situation seems impossible. Confess your inadequacy and ask El Shaddai to be your all-sufficient strength in that very place.

Closing Prayer: El Shaddai, God Almighty, thank You for being more than enough. I lay down my weakness and my impossibility at Your feet and trust in Your all-sufficient power today. Amen
