The Posture of Humility- It’s Not a Performance

The Living Gospel (Week 3: Crafting Your Testimony)

Opening Prayer
Holy Spirit, fill us with a spirit of humility. May we decrease so that Christ in our story may increase.

Today’s Scripture (NLT)
1 Corinthians 2:4-5
“And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.”

As we begin this practical week on how to share our story, we must start with the right posture. The Apostle Paul was a brilliant and educated man, yet he made a conscious choice. When sharing the Gospel, he decided not to rely on “clever and persuasive speeches.” His goal was not to impress people with his eloquence or to put on a performance.

This is a profound lesson for us. Sharing your testimony is not a performance. You don’t need to have the perfect words or a dramatic, polished delivery. In fact, relying on our own cleverness can get in the way. Paul’s desire was that people’s faith would rest “in the power of God,” not in his human ability.

The posture of humility means you approach sharing your story with a deep reliance on the Holy Spirit. You are not the star of the show; you are the tour guide pointing to the main attraction, Jesus Christ. This takes all the pressure off. You don’t have to be perfect; you just have to be a willing and humble vessel.

Disciples’ Life Tip: Before you think about sharing your story, do a heart check. Ask yourself: “Is my primary goal to impress this person or to introduce them to the power of God?” Confess any desire to perform and ask God for a spirit of genuine humility.

Closing Prayer: Lord, save me from the pride that makes me want to perform. May I rely only on the power of Your Spirit, so that when I share my story, people encounter You and not just me. Amen.
