The Living Gospel (Week 2: Connecting Your Chapter to His Book)
Opening Prayer
Lord, help us to see our lives not as the main event, but as a small and beautiful part of Your grand, eternal story.
Today’s Scripture (NLT)
John 3:30
“He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.”
Last week, we focused on uncovering our personal narrative. This week, we learn how to connect our story to God’s much bigger story. The first and most crucial step is a shift in perspective. In the story of our own lives, we naturally see ourselves as the main character. But in the story of the Gospel, we are not. Jesus is.
John the Baptist understood this perfectly. He had a powerful ministry and a huge following, but when Jesus appeared, John knew his role was changing. His statement is the lifelong mantra for every believer: “He must become greater… I must become less.” The purpose of our life story is not to make a name for ourselves, but to make His name known.
When we share our testimony, this must be our guiding principle. We move from being the hero of our own story to being a witness to the one true Hero. Our story is not the main feature; it is the supporting evidence. It is one small chapter in His great book of redemption. This posture of humility is what ensures our testimony always brings glory to God, not to ourselves.
Disciples’ Life Tip: Review the one-sentence thesis statement you wrote for your testimony yesterday. Does it make you the hero, or does it make Jesus the hero? If needed, rephrase it to ensure that He is the one who “becomes greater.”
Closing Prayer: Jesus, You are the author and perfecter of my faith, the hero of the story. Help me to joyfully embrace my supporting role, finding my greatest purpose in making You known. Amen.
