From Rest to Resilience: How True Rest Fuels Your Life’s Work

November 16, 2025

By Andrew Williams

Opening Prayer
Lord, thank you that true rest doesn’t lead to laziness, but equips us with the strength and resilience to do the good work you’ve called us to.

Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Isaiah 40:31
“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”

As we conclude this week on rest, it’s crucial to understand its ultimate purpose. Godly rest is not an end in itself; it is the means to a life of resilient service. The world’s idea of rest is escapism, a way to numb out from the demands of life. God’s idea of rest is restoration, a way to plug into the divine power source.

This verse beautifully illustrates the outcome of a life rooted in rest. Notice the condition: “those who trust in the Lord.” Another translation says “those who wait upon the Lord.” This waiting, this trusting, is the essence of rest. And what is the result? They “will find new strength.”

The rest we find in Christ doesn’t make us lazy; it makes us strong. It allows us to “soar” above our circumstances, to “run” the race of faith without burning out, and to simply “walk” and keep going on the long, hard days without fainting. True rest is not the opposite of work; it is the fuel for our work. It’s what gives us the spiritual and emotional resilience to live a 24/7 Christian life for the long haul.

Disciples’ Life Tip: As you look to the week ahead, identify one area where you know you will need extra strength. Right now, practice “resting in advance” by praying, “Lord, I trust you for the strength I will need for [name the situation] this week.”

Closing Prayer: Father, thank You that in You, we find the strength to soar, to run, and to walk. May our rest in You fuel a life of resilient and joyful service for Your glory. Amen.
