Opening Prayer
Lord, give us a deep hunger and thirst for Your Word, the true spiritual food that nourishes our souls.
Today’s Scripture (NLT)
1 Peter 2:2
“Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation.”
You would never expect a child to grow physically strong without proper nutrition. In the same way, we cannot expect to grow spiritually strong without consistent nourishment from God’s Word. The Bible is not a dusty rulebook or a collection of old stories; it is our “pure spiritual milk,” the very food our souls need to thrive.
Peter uses the image of a newborn baby. A healthy baby has an intense, undeniable craving for milk. It’s not something they have to be talked into; it’s an instinct. He encourages us to cultivate that same kind of craving for Scripture. But what if you don’t feel that appetite? Appetites are often developed. The more you taste and see that the Lord is good through His Word, the more you will desire it.
Neglecting the Word leads to spiritual malnutrition. We become weak, easily swayed by false ideas, and unable to stand firm in times of trial. An intentional commitment to feeding on Scripture is the most fundamental practice for growing in Christ.
Disciples’ Life Tip: Before you open your Bible this week, pray this simple prayer: “Lord, help me to crave this. Give me an appetite for Your truth.” This small shift in posture from “I have to do this” to “Lord, help me want this” can change everything.
Closing Prayer: Father, thank You for giving us the spiritual food we need in Your Word. Transform our duty into delight and our reading into a deep, soul-satisfying feast. Amen.
