Opening Prayer
Lord, may Your Word not just be a book we read, but a living truth that makes its home in our hearts.
Today’s Scripture (NLT)
Colossians 3:16a
“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives.”
If abiding is a constant connection to Jesus, then His Word is one of the primary channels for that connection. Abiding through Scripture is more than just a morning quiet time; it is about letting the truth of God’s Word permeate our entire being and shape our thoughts, words, and actions all day long.
The command here is to let the “message about Christ… fill your lives.” This implies a saturation. It’s like a sponge being dropped in water. The Word is meant to get into every part of us, influencing how we think, how we handle conflict, and how we make decisions. When the Bible moves from being information we consume to truth that we live in, we are truly abiding in it.
This abiding in the Word isn’t just a personal practice; it’s communal. We are to “teach and counsel each other” with the wisdom it provides. A 24/7 Christian lifestyle is one where Scripture is the constant reference point, not just for our own lives, but for how we love and serve the people around us.
Disciples’ Life Tip: Choose one short verse for the day (e.g., “The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.” – Psalm 23:1). Write it on a sticky note and put it where you’ll see it often. Meditate on it, and try to bring it to mind during different parts of your day.
Closing Prayer: Father God, we want Your Word to fill our lives. Help us to move beyond simply reading it to truly abiding in its truth. Amen.
