Opening Prayer
Lord, open our hearts and minds to Your Word today, that it might be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
Today’s Scripture: Psalm 119:105 (NLT)
“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
Now that you’ve begun your journey home with God, how do you know which way to go? How do you navigate the challenges and decisions of this new life? God has not left us to wander in the dark; He has given us His Word, the Bible.
This verse describes the Bible in two beautiful ways. It is a “lamp to guide my feet,” which speaks of immediate, next-step guidance. When you don’t know what to do in a specific situation today, God’s Word can provide the wisdom you need for that very next step. It illuminates the ground right in front of you.
It is also a “light for my path,” which speaks of long-term vision and direction. The Bible reveals God’s character, His grand story, and His ultimate purposes for your life. It keeps you on the right road, heading toward the right destination. The Bible isn’t just a book of ancient stories or religious rules; it is God’s living voice to you, your primary source of nourishment and guidance for the journey.
Disciples’ Life Tip: Don’t be intimidated by the Bible. Start small. Pick one book, like the Gospel of John, and commit to reading just one chapter (or even a few verses) each day this week. As you read, simply ask, “God, what are you saying to me through this?”
Closing Prayer: Father God, thank You for the incredible gift of Your Word. Help us to treasure it, to read it, and to allow it to light our way as we walk with You. Amen.
