Introduction
We’ve spent this week defining the fight, mapping the battlefield, and identifying the enemy’s tactics. And if we’re honest, it can all feel a bit heavy, maybe even intimidating. But today’s teaching is the pivot point. It’s the truth that changes everything.
What if I told you that the key to spiritual warfare isn’t about you becoming a stronger fighter, but about you understanding the victory that has already been won for you? What if the most important thing is not how you fight, but where you are seated?
Today, we’re talking about why victory isn’t something we fight for, but something we fight from.
The War Is Already Won
Before we talk about our role in any battle, we have to establish the single most important truth: the war has already been won. The decisive victory has been secured.
Colossians 2:15 says that on the cross, Jesus “disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them.”
The enemy has been disarmed. The outcome is not in doubt. When Jesus declared “It is finished,” He wasn’t just talking about our salvation from sin; He was talking about His triumph over all the powers of darkness.
We are not soldiers in a desperate fight, hoping we might win. We are peacekeepers, enforcing a victory that our King has already secured. This shifts our entire mindset from one of fear and anxiety to one of confidence and authority.
Your New Address: Seated with Christ
So, if the war is won, where does that put us?
Ephesians 2:6 gives us our current spiritual address: “For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus.”
This is not a future promise; it is a present reality. Right now, in the spiritual realm, your position is not on the ground cowering before the enemy. Your position is next to Christ in the seat of authority. You are looking down on a defeated foe, not up at a terrifying tyrant.
When you pray, you are not praying up to a distant king; you are praying from your seat next to the King. This position gives us an unshakable security and a delegated authority. We operate not in our own power, but in the power of the One we are seated with.
Living FROM Your Identity, Not FOR It
Because of this victory and this position, your identity is secure. You are a child of God, a co-heir with Christ, a saint.
The enemy’s primary tactic is to give you identity amnesia—to make you forget who you are. He will attack you with accusations and lies to make you feel like your struggles define you. He wants you to think, “I am an anxious person,” or “I am a failure.”
But your position in Christ means your struggles do not define your identity. You are a child of God who is dealing with anxiety. You are a victor in Christ who just stumbled. We must learn to live from our true identity, not spend our lives fighting for an identity.
The battle is to believe what God says about you more than you believe what the enemy says about you or what your feelings say about you.
Practical Steps/Takeaways
How do we begin to live from this victorious position?
- 1. Declare Your Position: Start every morning by saying this truth out loud: “The war is won. Jesus is victorious. I am seated with Him in the heavenly realms. I will live from that victory today.”
- 2. Pray from Authority: Change the way you pray. Instead of begging from a place of defeat, start declaring God’s promises from your position of authority. For example, “In the name of Jesus, and from my position in Him, I declare that fear has no place in my mind.“
- 3. Differentiate Identity from Struggle: When you face a challenge, consciously separate who you are from what you’re experiencing. Say, “This feeling of shame is an attack, but it is not who I am. I am forgiven and righteous in Christ.”
Conclusion
Spiritual warfare is not about trying harder. It’s about trusting deeper. It’s not about mustering up your own strength; it’s about resting in His. Your focus shouldn’t be on the size of the enemy, but on the greatness of your King and your unshakable position beside Him. You are not fighting for victory. You are standing firm, from a place of victory.
