The Evangelist’s Home- Philip’s Lasting Legacy of Faith and Family

June 2, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“On the next day we departed and came to Caesarea, and we entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the Seven, and stayed with him. He had four unmarried daughters, who prophesied.” – Acts 21:8-9 (ESV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

Acts 21:8-9 offers a final glimpse into the life of Philip, now known as “the evangelist.” Years after his ministry in Samaria and his encounter with the Ethiopian eunuch, Philip is found living in Caesarea, hosting Paul and his companions. The verse highlights his established reputation as an evangelist and reveals a detail about his family: “He had four unmarried daughters, who prophesied.” This suggests that Philip’s home was a place of faith, spiritual gifting, and prophetic ministry. It underscores the importance of living a life of worship that has an impact on my family.

As a disciple, your influence extends beyond your individual actions and impacts your family, your community, and future generations. Philip’s example reminds you that your faithfulness to God can create a legacy of faith that inspires and empowers others. Your home can be a place of worship, of hospitality, and of spiritual growth, where others encounter the love and power of Jesus. It is crucial to redirect your focus so that your family can become a beacon of hope.

This week, reflect on the legacy you are building and the impact you are having on those around you. Seek to create a home environment that is filled with love, faith, and spiritual growth. Look for opportunities to share your faith with your family, to encourage their spiritual gifts, and to support them in their calling.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be a faithful disciple, whose life inspires and empowers others to follow You. Guide me to create a home environment that is filled with love, faith, and spiritual growth. Strengthen my family relationships and help us to support one another in our calling. May we be a light to the world, and may Your name be glorified through our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
