“This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch.” – Acts 6:5 (NLT)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Acts 6:5 details the selection of seven men to serve the Greek-speaking widows in the early church. This proposal was conceived as a response to the apostles’ need to focus on preaching and prayer. The verse specifically highlights that this proposal pleased the whole group. Among those chosen was Philip, listed alongside Stephen, who was described as a man “full of faith and of the Holy Spirit.” Philip’s inclusion in this list suggests that he, too, possessed these qualities. He demonstrated he was qualified and suited to assist with the growing needs of the church.
As a disciple, you are called to serve others with humility, compassion, and a spirit-filled heart. Philip’s example reminds you that you don’t have to be an apostle or a preacher to make a difference in the Kingdom of God. God can use your practical skills, your willingness to serve, and your faithfulness to meet the needs of others and to advance His purposes. You are empowered to be a servant-hearted leader, regardless of your position or title. Let your service be a reflection to everyone that you are following God and have redirect your focus to Him.
This week, look for opportunities to serve others in your church, in your community, or in your family. Be willing to take on tasks that may seem mundane or insignificant. Remember that every act of service, no matter how small, is an act of worship to God.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be a servant-hearted leader, following the example of Jesus. Give me the humility to serve others with compassion and the wisdom to recognize their needs. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, so that I may be effective in my service and may bring glory to your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
