“Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.” – Luke 5:29 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Luke 5:29 depicts Levi’s (Matthew’s) immediate and joyful response to being called by Jesus. He hosts a “great banquet” at his house, inviting a large crowd of tax collectors and others to meet Jesus. This demonstrates Levi’s desire to share his newfound joy and to introduce his friends to the transformative power of Christ. It is an illustration of how someone, once transformed by the love of Christ, would want to share this news with those around them.
As a disciple, you are called to share your faith with others and to create opportunities for them to encounter Jesus. Levi’s example reminds you that evangelism can be a natural and joyful expression of your love for Christ. You are empowered to use your home, your resources, and your relationships to create welcoming spaces where others can experience the grace and truth of the Gospel. Do not shy from sharing your faith, but remember to redirect your focus to Christ, so that he gets the glory and not us.
This week, consider how you can create opportunities for others to encounter Jesus. Invite a friend to church, host a small group in your home, or simply share your testimony with someone who is seeking. Be open to using your resources and your relationships to extend the invitation of Christ to those around you.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, fill me with your love, joy, and compassion. Help me to be a faithful witness to your grace and your truth. Show me how I can create opportunities for others to encounter you and to experience the transforming power of your love. May my life be a reflection of your goodness and may I lead others to discover the joy of knowing you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
