“When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.” – Mark 16:9 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Mark 16:9 emphasizes Mary Magdalene’s unique position as the first person to whom the risen Jesus appeared. This verse underscores her significance in the narrative of the resurrection. The passage also reminds us of her past, noting that Jesus had driven seven demons out of her, highlighting the transformative power of Christ’s grace and His choice to reveal Himself first to someone with a past.
As a disciple, you may sometimes feel unworthy, unqualified, or insignificant. You may believe that your past mistakes or struggles disqualify you from being used by God. Mary Magdalene’s example reminds you that God often chooses the unlikely, the overlooked, and the broken to accomplish His purposes. You are empowered to embrace your past, to learn from your mistakes, and to trust that God can use you, just as you are, to make a difference in the world. Your history can be a powerful component of your story that brings glory to God.
This week, reflect on your own story and identify ways in which God has worked in your life, even in the midst of your struggles or mistakes. Share your testimony with others and encourage them to trust in God’s power to transform their lives as well.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for your grace, Your forgiveness, and Your transformative power. Help me to embrace my past and to trust that You can use me, just as I am, to make a difference in the world. Give me the courage to share my testimony with others and to encourage them to trust in Your love and Your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
