“Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him. Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.” Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him.” – Matthew 26:48-50 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
Matthew 26:48-50 depicts the chilling moment of Judas’ ultimate betrayal of Jesus. He uses a prearranged signal—a kiss—to identify Jesus to the armed crowd. The kiss, a symbol of affection and loyalty, becomes an instrument of treachery. Jesus’ response, “Do what you came for, friend,” reveals His awareness of Judas’ intentions and His willingness to fulfill His divine purpose. This passage underscores the depth of Judas’ deception and the profound pain of Jesus’s betrayal by someone He had loved and trusted.
As a disciple, you may encounter people who mask their true intentions with false displays of affection or friendship. You may be betrayed by those you trust, deceived by those who claim to care for you, or manipulated by those seeking to advance their own agenda. Judas’ actions serve as a reminder to be discerning in your relationships, to look beyond outward appearances, and to trust in God’s guidance to protect you from deception. God will protect you and redirect your focus in times of turmoil.
This week, be intentional about building authentic relationships with those who share your values and support your walk with Christ. Pray for discernment to recognize those who may not have your best interests at heart. Guard your heart against flattery, manipulation, and false displays of affection. Seek genuine connection and mutual respect in your interactions with others. It is important that we continually seek God, so that we can discern those around us.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me discernment to recognize those who may not have my best interests at heart. Help me to build authentic relationships with those who share my values and support my walk with you. Protect me from flattery, manipulation, and false displays of affection. Lead me to genuine connection and mutual respect in my interactions with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
