“Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!” (He meant Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)” – John 6:70-71 (NIV)
Good morning fellow disciples.
John 6:70-71 reveals Jesus’s awareness of Judas’s future betrayal even as He affirms His choice of the twelve. Despite knowing that “one of you is a devil,” Jesus doesn’t revoke the calling or publicly expose Judas at this point. This passage highlights the tension between divine foreknowledge and human choice. It also underscores the profound pain Jesus carried, knowing that one of His chosen disciples would turn against Him.
As a disciple, you may encounter difficult situations where you are aware of potential betrayal, hidden motives, or impending disappointment. Like Jesus, you may have to navigate relationships where you know that not everyone is who they seem to be. This passage reminds you to rely on God’s wisdom and discernment in such situations. You are empowered to act with love and grace while also being aware of potential dangers. It calls us to deeper level of sensitivity to the direction of the Holy Spirit.
This week, seek God’s wisdom and discernment in your relationships. Pray for the ability to see people as God sees them and to navigate difficult situations with grace and integrity. Be open to the possibility that not everyone may have your best interests at heart, and trust God to guide your steps accordingly. Redirect your focus to trusting in the Holy Spirit, because He knows all.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, grant me wisdom and discernment in my relationships. Help me to see people as you see them and to navigate difficult situations with grace and integrity. Protect me from deception and guide me in making wise decisions. May I always be sensitive to your Spirit and trust in your guidance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
