“Come and See”: The Invitation to Experience Christ

April 7, 2025

By Andrew Williams

“Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spent that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.” – John 1:38-40 (NIV)

Good morning fellow disciples.

John 1:38-40 captures the initial encounter between Jesus and two of John the Baptist’s disciples, including Andrew. Jesus’ simple question, “What do you want?” invites them to articulate their deepest desires. Their response, asking where Jesus is staying, reveals their yearning for a closer connection and deeper understanding. Jesus’ invitation, “Come, and you will see,” is an open invitation to experience Him firsthand. Spending the day with Jesus transformed their lives, highlighting the power of personal encounter and discipleship.

As a disciple, you may feel a longing for a deeper connection with Christ. Like Andrew and his companion, you might be searching for answers and wanting to experience God in a more profound way. Jesus’ invitation, “Come, and you will see,” is extended to you as well. He invites you to draw near to Him, to spend time in His presence, and to experience His love, grace, and truth firsthand. You are empowered to seek a deeper relationship with Christ through prayer, study of His Word, fellowship with other believers, and service to others.

This week, intentionally carve out time to “come and see” Jesus. Set aside quiet time for prayer and reflection, immerse yourself in the Scriptures, and seek opportunities to connect with other believers. Consider what steps you can take to deepen your relationship with Christ and to experience His presence in a more tangible way. Are you truly willing to follow where Jesus leads? Redirect your focus to quiet time to encounter God’s presence.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I long for a deeper connection with You. I accept Your invitation to “come and see” and I commit to seeking Your presence in my life. Help me to carve out time for prayer, study of your Word, and fellowship with other believers. Show me what steps I can take to deepen my relationship with You and to experience Your love, grace, and truth in a more profound way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
